ASSURDOTTOCENTO

Questa sala riunisce una selezione di manifesti teatrali di Emanuele Luzzati, provenienti dall’archivio della Lele Luzzati Foundation. Attraverso questi materiali si traccia il dialogo tra Jarry, Luzzati  e il Teatro della Tosse: un filo che attraversa più di un secolo di teatro e che continua a generare visioni, domande e meraviglia.
Nel 1896 Alfred Jarry scandalizza Parigi con Ubu Roi, una satira feroce e grottesca che rompe con ogni convenzione teatrale ottocentesca. Con il suo linguaggio deformato, la logica capovolta e il protagonista ridicolo e crudele, Jarry anticipa di decenni quello che sarà definito “Teatro dell’Assurdo”. Ubu diventa così un archetipo: una marionetta di potere e derisione, simbolo della condizione umana smarrita fra comicità e tragedia.
L’immaginario di Ubu incontra naturalmente quello di Lele Luzzati, che proprio nel grottesco poetico, nel gioco teatrale e nella libertà formale riconosce una parte profonda della propria visione artistica. Attraverso scenografie, figure e illustrazioni, Luzzati da nuova vita al mondo jarryano, trasformandolo in un universo visivo vibrante, ironico e sorprendentemente attuale.
Quando nel 1975 Luzzati, Tonino Conte e Aldo Trionfo fondano il Teatro della Tosse, l’Ubu diventa il simbolo di questa nuova avventura artistica: un emblema di fantasia irriverente, sperimentazione e teatro come atto libero. 
Da allora l’Ubu accompagna la Tosse nella sua storia, diventandone il logo e una delle sue immagini più riconoscibili.

Jarry, Luzzati and the Teatro della Tosse

This room brings together a selection of theatre posters by Emanuele Luzzati from the archive of the Lele Luzzati Foundation. Through these materials, a dialogue unfolds between Jarry, Luzzati, and the Teatro della Tosse: a thread that spans more than a century of theatre and continues to generate visions, questions, and wonder.
In 1896, Alfred Jarry scandalised Paris with Ubu Roi, a fierce and grotesque satire that broke with every convention of nineteenth-century theatre. Through its distorted language, inverted logic, and its ridiculous yet cruel protagonist, Jarry anticipated by decades what would later be defined as the “Theatre of the Absurd.”
Ubu thus became an archetype: a puppet of power and derision, a symbol of the human condition caught between comedy and tragedy.
Ubu’s imagery naturally encounters that of Lele Luzzati, who recognised in poetic grotesque, theatrical play, and formal freedom a profound part of his own artistic vision. Through stage designs, figures, and illustrations, Luzzati gives new life to Jarry’s world, transforming it into a vibrant visual universe-ironic and strikingly contemporary.
When Luzzati, Tonino Conte, and Aldo Trionfo founded the Teatro della Tosse in 1975, Ubu became the symbol of this new artistic adventure: an emblem of irreverent imagination, experimentation, and theatre as a free act.
Since then, Ubu has accompanied the Tosse throughout its history, becoming its logo and one of its most recognisable images.
